On July 14, 2010, Sergeant Adam Keys and his platoon were patrolling Afghanistan when a car bomb went off
Everything went black
Adam went into a coma and would undergo over 130 surgeries
Doctors gave him a less than 1% chance of surviving
Worse: even if he survived, they feared he had irreparable brain damage
For Adam, everything in his coma was hazy -- except for one thing:
He constantly overhead people saying he wasn't going to make it
And each time he heard those words, he knew with ABSOLUTE certainty that he was going to prove them wrong
Showing an absolutely indomitable will, he flatlined over 6 times, but he refused to die
Against all odds, he finally woke up… and his doctors were shocked
He not only survived, he also had NO brain damage
Still, he got some bad news -- he had lost both legs and his left hand
The doctors warned him that even everyday tasks like sitting up and brushing his teeth would be a challenge.
He scoffed at them and said he would jump out of an airplane again.
On July 12, 2012 — he did just that
Then he set his mind to go skiing again
And then set his sights on finishing a full marathon
As if those weren't enough challenges, he took up stand-up comedy as a hobby
Adam's life is a masterclass in showing that certain people can surmount any challenge that life throws at them
And he proved that again in September of 2018, when he set out to climb the highest mountain in Africa, Mount Kilimanjaro.
After a brutal 6 days, Adam finally made it to the top
